Debian Install Question

Ok, I'm completely new when it comes to Debian, however, I've used Slackware and a various other distros for a little over a year now.

My Questions: Which Debian CDs should I download? A buddy said all he did was DL and burn disk 1, then use apt to get all of the other packages. Does this sound like a sound plan? If not, what would be the best idea?

looks good, the 1st cd is enough, apt will do the rest

Yes, you only need CD 1 for installing the base system.
When the base system is installed, run apt-setup and add the mirrors you like to install packages from.
You can also do this by editing /etc/apt/sources.list manually.
Then run apt-get update.
Then use aptitude to see what packages you want to install or apt-get install [packagename]

For stable, download from there: http://www.debian.org/CD/netinst/
then burn the image to cd and boot from this cd...
