Howdy Debian users!
I'm a Slacker, but I have an extra computer lying around and I'm curious about the world of Debian. I downloaded the first CD for the testing phase, burned it, and plopped the bad boy in my CD-ROM drive. Set-up seemed to go very nice. I'd considered myself relatively competent when it comes to Linux, so set up was a breeze, but I ran into an error when the disc started actually installing packages.
A window pops up with this message:
Code:
The debootstrap program exited with an error (return value 1).
Check /var/log/syslog or see virtual console 3 for the details
So I check out the VT and this is it's output:
Code:
usage: /usr/lib/debootstrap/pkgdetails PKGS mirror packagesfile pkgs..
or: /usr/lib/debootstrap/pkgdetails FIELD field mirror packagesfile pkgs..
or: /usr/lib/debootstrap/pkgdetails GETDEPS packagesfile pkgs..
or: /usr/lib/debootstrap/pkgdetails WGET% low high end reason
The installer gives me the options to continue, so I do that, and I get this
Code:
The base system installation into /target/ failed.
Check /var/log/syslog or see virtual console 3 for the details.
I continue again:
Code:
An installation step failed. You can try to run the failing item again from the menu,
or skip it and choose something else. The failing step is: Install the base system
I hit continue and it takes me back to the Debian Installer main menu.
Any ideas? I google'd, and just found bugs logs, but nothing that seemed to directly pertain to my situation.
Thanks
