Debian Gets FreeBSD Kernel Support
 

Two new architectures to the Debian archive have been added:

1.kfreebsd-i386 AKA GNU/kFreeBSD i386

2.kfreebsd-amd64 AKA GNU/kFreeBSD amd64

Cool. But why would I want to run this?

It's up to you.I like to check new OS if I think that I could be interested and if I like one I keep it on my test machine,since this is Debian with FreeBSD kernel,I'm interested.I know that we have members who use FreeBSD,so maybe they will check out this new OS too.That would be nice.
I've tried PCBSD once,long time ago,for a few days only.For me it was just too different from Linux back then and I wanted to be focused on Linux only,so it was removed from my HD but it was very interesting expirience.
I don't know much about FreeBSD but I will start learning about it and I will check this new OS for sure.That should be fun. ;)

I've run FreeBSD from 5.x up to 7.1. FreeBSD is a rock-solid OS, with a highly stable kernel. It is worth a look, I think you'll like it. The FreeBSD handbook is a good place to start.

I've been learning a little,at the moment I wonder on what hardware you've run FreeBSD? Was it full supported by default?

You're very welcome. :) FreeBSD identifies hardware very well from my experience. I've run FreeBSD 7.1 with KDE 3.5.10 on a Plll 667 MHz IBM with 256 MB RAM and a Celeron 850 MHz with 768 MB RAM. It found all of my hardware out of the box. I believe there is a hardware compatibility list at the FreeBSD site.
