Debian etch LAMP Server
I have configured and successfully installed a dedicated Linux, Apache2, MySQL5, PHP5 web server and I want to setup a FTP server on this box. The problem that i'm currently having with this little project is that I do not know if the Debian etch distribution automatically installed this ftp server service (i selected only the Desktop Enviroment when i installed debian because i wanted to manually configure everything).
I'm trying to use ProFTPd in standalone mode and whenever i try to restart the service (/etc/init.d/proftpd restart) i get the following message
Restarting ProFTPD ftp daemon.failed
..proftpd
done
I'm wondering why it is telling me that it has failed. Is it because there is something already using my default ftp port (21) or is it because it was improperly installed?
to install the program i did (apt-get install proftpd)
I tried to change the port to something different and it still is coming up with the same thing. What is causing it to say daemon.failed?
Thanks in advance guys/girls!
