Debian Etch i386 not keeping time
Hi. I'm a recent convert to Debian from Slackware. I must say, I'm very happy with the system so far.
The problem is that the time on my Etch i386 system is off by 5 hours exactly. It shows my time 5 hours earlier than it actually is, to be exact. I have the time zone set right, clock set to localtime, BIOS time is right...all that adds up, but the time doesn't. I'm running Etch on a Dell XPS 710, with BIOS revision 1.3.3. I mention this because I had read someplace that the newest kernels weren't getting along with the Dell BIOS so well. But, I haven't seen anymore on this one way or another. Any ideas? Thanks, Mike |
Are both the BIOS and system time set to local time?

Hey,
Have you got ntp installed and running? If not that should sort the time out, if you have   Chris. |
Yes, BIOS and system are both set to local time.
ntpd did the trick. I was hoping to figure out what the problem was without running another daemon, but I'll have to go this route for now, at least until I figure out if there's a problem with my BIOS and the latest kernels. Thanks for the help all, Mike |
