Thumbs down Debian etch http://mirror.pacific.net.au site hacked??!

Recently after doing a fresh install of Debian etch rc03 I automatically updated (aptitude update)from the above mirror PRIOR to doing a backups and then started having unusual problems such as not being able to update anymore, sources.list problems, openoffice kept crashing. So I went to the update site and discovered an AUDIO file called from memory something like readme.txt, so as I was pretty certain something untoward had already happened, I thought what the heck and downloaded it. On opening it opened in OpenOffice (not in an audio application) to display the current date and time.

Just interested if others in Australia have had this problem. I want to do a backup after another fresh installation and before I checkout this site again.

Cheers

Well, http://mirror.pacific.net.au/debian/dists/stable/ seems OK to me... In case of doubt, try another mirror.

It is NOW but previously - because of the delay involved in installing from scratch and posting there was an AUDIO file there with an AUDIO icon attached. Obviously it would not be a good idea to attempt to save or post the file here or elsewhere! When I attempted to open it opened in OpenOffice and simply contained one line with the current date. Then OpenOffice kept crashing and I could not do any updates on line either.

Just thought I would mention it as a forewarning to others about doing automated downloads. Fortunately it was just my home laptop not a server or a work PC.

Cheers
