Debian CD vendors in India who sell Etch distribution

I've looked at a lot of Debian CD vendors in India and most of them are still having the Sarge distribution listed in their product page. I want to know a good vendor who sells Debian Etch CDs in India (not DVDs as my laptop doesn't have a DVD drive) and can accept cheque payments.

Please don't tell me to download and install using NetInstall ISO as the Internet connection speeds are abysmal. I want to try and avoid downloading Debian and yet want a fairly recent version.

Can anybody help with with this? I checked out all the vendors on the Debian ofiicial vendor page here

http://www.debian.org/CD/vendors/#in

but most of them are still stocking the Sarge ISOs. I want a fairly up-to-date Etch distro on CDs (again not DVDs).

Regards.

Ubuntu is a fairly stable Etch ;) So you might want to order one or more Ubuntu CD's from their website. Why order more then one? They're free, so you can give them away to people who still use propriety software ;)

I don't like Ubuntu. Used it a while ago and never liked the way it was set up. I don't like Gnome and the sudo stuff. I thought about Ubuntu, but decided that I prefer Debian pure.

Update - I've placed an order with buylinuxdvd.com (which is listed in the Debian official page). The advantage is that I need not pay online and can just drop a cheque at a local bank. I'll keep you up to date whether it's been confirmed or not.

They should have Etch distribution snapshots since they're listed as a vendor in the Debian CD vendors page and it's not terribly expensive since the it's local delivery within India.

Man - Paying for Etch? Things must be rough in India. I'd be happy to send you a copy...

I've got a reply from the vendor stating that he doesn't have Etch for x86 arch. Says it will cost me more as he will need to download it specially for me. All said, it will cost me > Rs. 1500 for a 20 CD set which is far more than the cost of a normal order placed.

Well, I replied stating that it's not necessary to send all 20 CDs and just asked him to send 2 or 3 CDs. WIll wait and see how it goes.

Downloading is a major issue here as connection speeds are abysmal and doing a netinstall is not a viable option.

Carlwill, thanks for the offer. I've sent you an e-mail.

I can help, I am in Hyd and am currently downloading debian r3 i386 CDs. do you want only the update cds?
one more thing. how bad is the internet at your place? I have a bsnl connection and its good enough to get me all the debian cds within reasonable time.

Thanks w3bd3vil. I have asked the guys at buylinuxdvd.com and it appears that I can get the installation CDs.

I don't want the update cds, but the main installation cds, as I need to install in a laptop.

I am in the process of changing my internet connection as I was using a crappy service provider called Iqara who charges a lot for very little bandwidth and an inconsistent throughput.

If you can confirm that you can send me, I can cancel the order as I haven't paid yet.

Keep me as a last resort. cause I havent downloaded all the cds yet.

I've got my DVD with the ISO images. Also the vendor chose to add a few extras in the form of Freespire.

and I thought you didnt have a dvd drive! :D

I have one on my PC. I used the ISO images from the DVD to burn CDs and then installed it on my laptop
