Debian 8.4 won't boot after upgrade to kernel v.4.6

Hey everyone,

I installed the latest stable kernel version (4.6) on an ASUS Zenbook UX303UA. After building the *deb packages and installing them, I rebooted the machine and after passing the grub menu and the crypt passphrase point, I can only see a non-interactive black screen with the terminal pointer in the far left of the screen. Has anyone encountered this problem before? I've done many kernel upgrades (not on this specific hardware), and they always worked like a charm. Thanks

Hi.

Don't think this will help but I logged in to see if my Jessie was up to date, as I'm usually in Sid these days.

My package manager has Jessie at: "3.16.0-4-amd64 Debian 3.16.7-ckt25-2 (2016-04-08) x86_64 GNU/Linux"

Yes ctrl+alt+f1 works, it brings me to the prompt where I enter my root password, but I don't know what action to perform there. I tried exec gnome-session, but it did not work.

I found out that upgrading the Debian version from 8.4 to 9 did the change. The kernel now works perfectly.
