Debian 3.1 help needed

Hi Guys,

I have just started playing with linux and running on debian 3.1 due to the limitation of my box.

I am trying to run "apt-get install mysql-server-5.0"
but was hit with the messasge :

Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
E: Couldn't find package mysql-server-5.0

Attached is my sources.list :
deb http://archive.debian.org/debian sarge main

I realised that the distro of my debian was already out of support anyone know of any working sources that i can append to my sources.list to install mysql-server-5.0 ?

Thanks for the help and advice inadvance and pardon my english.

Regards,
Chris

I don't think mysql version 5 is in Sarge. I'm pretty sure it was not available until Etch. You could try either dist-upgrading to Etch, or try apt-pinning the package from etch. All you would have to do is add the Etch sources and then make sure it's pin priority is lower (so most of your packages are coming from Sarge). But there was so much time between Sarge and Etch, I'm not optimistic that you won't create a mess though.

You could also try compiling from source. Found this that shows it worked at one time...

A quick google also found these debs. Looks like here's the package repo
Code:
deb http://www.freshnet.org/debian/ sarge/

Why does your machine limit you to using Debian 3.1? Why can't you use the current version of Debian stable?

Evo2.

Anything can run Debian... I've run debian 5 on a thin client with 96MB RAM, 512MB CF card as HD Storage, and 233Mhz CPU... Worked fine!
