Debian 2.0
Is it still possible to get Debian 2.0? I only see 3.1 on the Debian site. (Its for an old laptop)
|
See HERE. You'll probably have to hunt around till you find someone other than Debian who may still have a copy of Hamm on their servers.
|
Ya, that is where I looked. So debian no longer hosts 2.0 isos?
|
You might still find it somewhere, but it's definitely not on any Debian servers, I don't think. Sorry. :(
|
Oh well, I'll probably end up using Puppy, DSL, or Austrumi.
|
What are the specs of this old laptop because newer versions of Debian maybe able to run on it?

Processor: 120 MHz
RAM: 48mb HDD: 1.2 Gib Drive: Floppy |

Slack will probably run on that unit. |
If its an option, give the Debian Etch a try, but use a very light environment e.g. fluxbox. Vector Linux maybe another good option for you.
|
I have never had much luck with Slack but may try it.

Do you have a CD ROM drive on the unit? An older version of Slack will work or even a custom install of Slack 11 using the stock 2.4xx kernel. It sounds like an interesting experiment.:D |
Just installing the kernel will give me what? A text user interface? That way I could download flux?

BTW, I don't mean to hijack this thread it just seems that Slack or Vector may do the job. DSL (Damn Small Linux) would also fit on your hard drive and would be easier to set-up than Slackware.:D Perhaps some of the Debian users can chime in here about the appropriateness of Debian on this unit. P.S. Slackware ships with Flux, Blackbox, XFce, and several other light environments. |
I had an old Toshiba Tecra running 133 mhz with 32 megs ram running Debian Woody with IceWM and it worked fine. You might not need to go to such and ancient release. Aside from things like openoffice it was quite usable. I used old Word Perfect 8 for my word processing. Most everything else was fine.

It has been archived

You could also grab the Etch CD with XFCE to start with... debian-40r0-i386-xfce-CD-1.iso

EXCELLENT! There you go, kalabanta. I looked all over for that archive yesterday. nx5000 posted the link you need.
Have fun! :) |
