Debian 10.4.0 locks session after opening settings, or any app

I was able to install debian as a VM on Virtualbox, it boots fine and I'm able to login, however, when I try to make any change, or open any application, the screen goes black, shows a cursor and then gets me back to the login screen.

I though the screensaver was locking the session, but it is not the case, I logged in and did not touch the system for a while, nothing happened, the issue happens as soon as I open an application, or try to go around the settings.

I have installed debian 10 several times as a virtual machine without problems using the net install ISO.

I assume you are using Windows 10 as a host.

What version of VirtuaBox are you running?

I assume you are installing a 64bit iso.

How much RAM, display memory, disk space are you assigning to the VM?

What other settings are you using?
