"Data does not fit on disk", from k3b
 

I'm trying to burn a double layer dvd on Debian Sarge. k3b keeps popping the disk out with "Data does not fit on disk".

k3b 0.11.20
Qt: 3.3.4
KDE 3.3.2

Growisofs is version 5.21
cdrecord is 4:2.01+01a01-2

Does KDE/K3b recognise the dual layer ability of the DVD burner?

The only thing that comes to mind is that I'm trying with double dvd-r, instead of double dvd+r media. The problem is that I'm using the only double media available on market. Even these ones are quite rare here.

Does your physical dvd burner burn DVD-R discs, or only DVD+R?
Also, check if you have enough free space on the hard drive in the /tmp folder or mount point so that k3b can make an image, or part of one.
One more thing: 8.5 (or whatever) GB could mean only 8,500,000,000 bytes, instad of 8,589,934,592 bytes, depending on whether 1 kb=1000 bytes or 1024.

I was trying 'on the fly'.


The source dvd was 6.X GB. That was not the case.

Thanks, bp. I have to make sure the burner is dual dvd-r compatible. When I grab info from the blank media, it says 4.4 GB available. Thats the best bet so far.

If you have latest dvd-writing software packages installed then it is quite likely a media problem. DVD burners are a pain in the ass anyway.

I was quite lucky to find double layer media on the market, regardless of what kind (*-r, *+r). It´s gonna be troubling to find it again. In most cases, the vendors don´t even know what kind they are selling...
