CUPS and SMB printed PDF files

I have been having a problem lately with CUPS being able to handle PDF files printed through Samba. A good portion of the time when a PDF file is printed (using Adobe Acrobat on a Windows machine) to the Samba shared printer on my linux machine, the print queue breaks and gets hung, or the printer starts printing garbage.

CUPS version: 1.1.20final
Samba version: 3.0.8-2
Kernel version: 2.4.26
Printer: HP Laserjet 2200d

Does anyone know of anything special that I should be doing to get the PDF files to print smoothly?
