crunchbang- - mounting failed no such device

Hi-

I downloaded the latest version of crunchbang. I have the live usb persisting but am getting msg(s) at boot up.

Here is my /var/log/live boot.log file

mount: mounting /dev/sda on /live/persistence/sda failed: No such device
mount: mounting /dev/sdb on /live/persistence/sdb failed: No such device
mount: mounting /dev/sr0 on /live/persistence/sr0 failed: No such device
mount: mounting /live on /root/live failed: Invalid argument

I look at my /etc/fstab file on the live usb stick and it is empty.

My df -h looks like:

df: `/live/rofs/filesystem.squashfs': No such file or directory
df: `/live/persistence/sdb2': No such file or directory
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
rootfs 4.6G 152M 4.2G 4% /
udev 10M 0 10M 0% /dev
tmpfs 400M 672K 400M 1% /run
/dev/sdb1 4.6G 152M 4.2G 4% /live/image
tmpfs 2.0G 0 2.0G 0% /live/overlay
tmpfs 2.0G 0 2.0G 0% /live/overlay
aufs 4.6G 152M 4.2G 4% /
tmpfs 5.0M 0 5.0M 0% /run/lock
tmpfs 800M 84K 800M 1% /run/shm
crunchbang@crunchbang:~$

Are all these entries because I need to put an entry in fstab? One parition is debian_live and the other partition is persistence. The debian_live partition contains all the iso stuff. The /dev/sdb1 is mounted on /live/image. That is the same size as my persistence partition on the usb stick.

Please assist. I think it is an fstab issue, but I don't often spend a lot of time in fstab.

Here is the link for the tutorial I followed:

thanks !
jim

Hi-

I didn't have much luck fooling with plymouth or trying to figure out why I am getting the error messages on boot up. The system seems to run fine, even though there are errors. My thought was to use plymouth to hide the errors on startup, but plymouth is giving a strange message in synaptic. It complains about initramfs-tools.

I will just give everyone a break and leave it that it seems to work okay once booted, even though I am not quite sure why I am getting some of these errors.

I am just happy to replace puppy linux for now. I use this live usb to surf with.

thanks,
jim

Hi-

Tonight I revisited the crunchbang mounting and error messages. I found that after doing my updates with apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade, some of the errors went away.

I thought about mounting the partitions and then realized that it automagically works and what is the sense. I have the code to mount on my website, but I don't think I need to actually do it now that those I/O errors went away. I mounted my ntfs read only just for something to do, but I will leave the usb fat32 and ext2 partitions on my key alone.

Here is my little hobbysite for the sample mounting code that I mostly chose not to do:

Do you agree in crunchbang because of the tutorial workaround that you don't have to mount your persistent usb live key in the /etc/fstab? I am looking for a way to see where the data is stored and/or back up the key next, but that is a project for another night.

Have a cool evening,
jim
