Creating a subdomain?
How would I go about creating a subdomain?
|
More info needed. Are you dealing with a home server or a webserver out on the web? etc?

I'm dealing with a home server

Sorry for the bump, but I can't find out how to do this everything I search for comes up with either a webhosting company offering you the ability to create a subdomain, or how to make a subdomain with c-panel or some other software like that.

I'm not 100% certain how to implement this but I think that you need to be running a DNS server (and all the network boxes using this as the DNS server) and set it up through the config file.

2 things:
(1) For DNS, you need to add an A entry your subdomain. (2) For Apache, you need to add the subdomain as a virtual domain in httpd.conf If nothing else, that should help you narrow down your googling ;-) |
I'm trying to do the same thing per say...
I'm running a home server on a dynamic address... currently I use DDNS (dyndns.org), is this still possible for me to create a sub-domain? Or is this already a subdomain? i.e. username.dyndns.org Is the user name I created, my sub-domain? Or could I still create a new sub-domain... a bit confused on this principle... thanks |
Ok, this is a bump, but I didn't want to create a new topic since it is realated to this previous topic I have. . . What do you mean add an A entry to your DNS? Where would I go to add that? I know how to add stuff to my virtual server in the apache config file, but I have no idea how to add stuff to my DNS. Thanks in advance for you help.
