copy existing root fs to nfs server

I want to setup pxe/tftp nfs boot for my client machine. I have currently an existing debian system on my client machine and would like to copy it to the server so that I can have the system up and running as it is now, but through nfs mount.

What is the best way to copy the whole fs? Will permissions will be still valid once moved. For example, user1 is both the user and group in my current system. Can that be the same in my server or I need to manipulate permissions?

As no one else has proffered a solution; I would suggest using 'dd' from an external operating system, by that I mean not the one you wish to copy. Use the server O/S to copy your client O/S to a folder under /tftp. This way should keep all permissions intact.

I think this folder should be named the same as your mac address of the client machine, or similar, but you will have to read up on that.
