-- Places ->Connect to server -> FTP -- is gone
I used to be able to connect to a FTP-sefver by using places->connect to server. In the dialog i could then select between a couple of connection typet (anonymous ftp, ftp with login, smb etc.
The only availabe connection type available now (i am using testing version) is SSH and custom.
Anyone who can give me a hint about what has happened?
Regards
Johan

It isn't clear from your question whether the server or your client has changed. Can you try using a commandline ftp client? What happens?

The problem is on my computer. The option to connect to FTP has disappeared from the menu/dialog --places > connect to server--
I was able to do that before and then get a shortcut on the desktop to the FTP server.

You should include the name & version of the distribution you are using. The GUI toolset included with various distros is not consistent, and the solution to your problem depends on the distribution you are using, as well as the desktop (Gnome, KDE, other). Someone acquainted with your distro may be able to advise you. Do you know the name of the program that provided your FTP access? If yes, you may be able to either re-install it, or locate it and recreate the menu item or desktop icon.

I am using Debian Testing. The desktop environment used is Gnome 2.18.3. Nautilus is the application that used to supply the FTP-connection (i guess as the possibility to connect to FTP server also was available in that program). I will try to reinstall nautilus to see if that helps.
Thank you for spending your time helping an happy amateur like me! :-)

Still no success after reinstalling the nautilus package. The problem is the same as in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=544065
I have tried to google for a solution, but all i found was the thread above.

Okay, on my version of Nautilus (2.8.1), the 'Connect to Server' menu item is under 'File' in the top menu. Perhaps the use of ftp is being discouraged if it doesn't appear on your version of Nuatilus.

Problem solved.
The solution was to add the libgnomevfs-extra package! Thanks to all who spent time trying to help me!
