Configuring XServer for Desktop GUI

Hi there --

I have a Compaq DeskPro EN P866 series workstation and I am having problems getting Gnome to run on the system. I have run the dpkg reconfiguration script several times but have always been confronted with the no screens found error message. Has anyone worked with a similar machine and had success getting the GUI to work? Thanks.

You probably have to do something with your video card's driver. Which videocard do you have and do you have the right driver installed. In your /etc/XF86Config-4 file you have to have this driver set (think you can pick it as well with dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86)

The video card in question is an NVIDIA TNT2. What driver should I use?

"nv" as in nvIDIA. :)

That one didn't work for me but you can download a binary driver from the nvidia linux site.
