Configuring XServer for Desktop GUI
Hi there --
I have a Compaq DeskPro EN P866 series workstation and I am having problems getting Gnome to run on the system. I have run the dpkg reconfiguration script several times but have always been confronted with the no screens found error message. Has anyone worked with a similar machine and had success getting the GUI to work? Thanks. |
You probably have to do something with your video card's driver. Which videocard do you have and do you have the right driver installed. In your /etc/XF86Config-4 file you have to have this driver set (think you can pick it as well with dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86)

The video card in question is an NVIDIA TNT2. What driver should I use?
|
"nv" as in nvIDIA. :)

That one didn't work for me but you can download a binary driver from the nvidia linux site.
