and i bet debian wiki itself is warning you of the dangers.
apart from that, come on, your system wasn't exactly in good condition before the dist-upgrade.

Well, I grant you the original OS installed via debootstrap would've been a basic system. I think I loaded further packages afterwards though.
However, it still worked well for my needs.

Since there may be a string of problems related to the system, it probably is best to re-install rather than firefight.
