I compiled from sources in Debian ( Woody and Sarge) but I couldn't. I download mc.tar.gz from gnu
website and compiled in Debian. When run ./configure , the errors are:
.... checking for gcc...gcc
checking for C compiler default output... configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables.
But when I compiled in Redhat, Fedore, it run well.
Can anybody explain me ? Thank you!!!!

You missed installing a package most likely binutils. BTW is this Midnight Commander you are trying to install if so you can apt-get install mc.
