command for getting all the installed packages

Hi all,

I have tried for getting all the installed packeges in the system,by using dpkg -l "*"|grep '^i'|more. It is working fine.

But when i tried for getting the description of all the packages...( dpkg --print-avail "all the packages")(using for loop i will give the package) in between the output some of the packages giving messages like "<package name> not available" .

So now what i want is i need a command which gives only installed packages in the system.

can you please help me.
Thanks in advance,

Code:
less /var/lib/dpkg/status
That will display all the installed packages on your system (although it may take a _very_ long time to scroll through them all...)

dpkg-query -W --showformat='${Installed-Size} ${Package}\n'
dpkg-query -W --showformat='${Package}\n'|less

Those are what I usually use. What kind of for loop are you using?
