Clementine won't play music
 
Hi guys, running stable, i've installed clementine to manage my music, as i think it's a wonderful music player. I found it very slow to import my music library and thought it'd frozen for a while, but finally worked. The issue now is, when i try to play a song it fails and this error pops up.

After i attempt to play a song, this addition occurs at the terminal.

I read this and installed jack but it didn't fix the issue.

Do you have gstreamer0.10-alsa installed? Someone here had the same issue and installing this package seemed to solve it.

Clementine is based on gstreamer, so all you have to do is to install gstreamer0.10-whatever packages as well.

Hi guys, and sorry i didn't get back to you sooner after i got this working. It was gstreamer0.10-alsa that was missing. Thanks odiseo; and also thanks jim for pitching in too. All good now.

Wonders why an app for KDE uses gstreamer? If the devs we smart it would be using ffmpeg instead, much easier to install one package than the several gstreamer plugins.

Does it matter? I mean... the entire audio backend of kde (phonon) uses gstreamer (or vlc or xine) to work, so an independant qt4 app is not such a big deal!
Clementine is built on qt4 and has no kde* dependencies at all, so it is not a kde app like amarok.

If gstreamer.0-10-alsa was the problem the depends need to be fixed.

Although the default on aptitude is to install recommends so it should have pulled it in if you used aptitude to install clementine.


Recommends: gstreamer0.10-alsa | gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio

Thanks jim_p for pointing that out it is a QT app not strictly a KDE app.

I did use aptitude to install clementine, but apt isn't perfect. I've also found issues installing banshee; and i've just gone back to my past thread where i brought the issue up, and it turns out it was missing the exact same package as here, gstreamer0.10-alsa.
