Chinese input
Hello
I used to be a Mandrake user. Now I moved on to Debian but I have problems with chinese input ! In Mandrake I installed chinput and it worked well. Under Debian (sid) I can see chinese caracters, but chinput doesnt work. I have tried others but again with no success... When I start chinput it says : Chinput Version 3.0.2 -- XIM Server Distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL) Couldn't load /home/djib/.pyinput/usrphrase.tab. Please fix it. size or load error Chinput ................................................[OK] Can any one help me ? Thanks ! |
Have a look at this http://www.linuxsir.org/bbs/showthre...hreadid=145825
Only problem I have now is the file name within OpenOffice. It does not show proper Chinese in its 'Save As' window. |
Hello,
Thanks but In fact I don't want a chinese environment. I want to keep it as is, but to be able to write chinese... |
try scim instead
|
Hello,
I have installed it it doesn't work either... Is there locales files to configure or so ? thanks... |
Chinese Input
Hi,
If scim is already installed (plus the scim-tables for Chinese etc.) type the following at the command line :- $ export LC_CTYPE=zh_CN.UTF-8; export XMODIFIERS=@im=SCIM; scim -d then you can run an application such as :- $ oowriter when that's (finally) loaded up, hit CTRL + SPACE, and the little SCIM window should pop up somewhere and you can select your language/input method from that... if that works, cool, if it doesn't, post the error messages here and we'll try to work through it... happy hunting! jdw |
Hello,
Thanks for your help. I see the window but I can only select English... there is no other language available... Is there a package I may have not installed ? Thanks |
go to the scim website and download the relevant scim-tables that you need. they are available as rpms and source, but they should also be available (somewhere) as .deb files as well...
install these and try again... |
谢谢你!
Thank you so much !!!!!!!! It was just those tables I was missing on !!!! Great !!!! |
cool!
enjoy! jdw |
Hello,
Just one more question. Is it supposed to work with all applications ? Like gaim for example ? And you have to load the deamon before loading the program don't you ? Eventually how can you launch the deamon automotically with your x ? Moreover I found out that is I don't launch a program from the console I write export LC_CTYPE=zh_CN.UTF-8; export XMODIFIERS=@im=SCIM; scim -d in, it doesn't work... Thanks ! |
Chinese Input
Hi,
Never tried it with gaim/ICQ anything like that. I've tried it with Open Office, Koffice, Kmail, Mozilla Thunderbird etc. and it worked with all them...have a look in places like www.linuxsir.org (it's in Chinese), someone would have looked at this issue before... I've seen a posting recently (can't remember where though) saying that you can create a .xsession file in your home directory in Debian and put in commands like "export LC_CTYPE=zh_CN.UTF-8" and "scim -d"; this should load them everytime you log in in X..never tried it myself though, so let me know if that works... yes...a limitation of setting locale and scim from a terminal window is that those settings will only apply for anything launched from the same terminal session...that's fine for me, I don't use Chinese input all that often and that's a nice easy way to do it...you can type the export and scim instructions as above into your ~/.bashrc file if you want it to apply for everything everytime you log in... cheers, jdw |
Hey
It works perfectly now, with nearly all programs. I followed the instructions on the page http://lists.debian.org/debian-chine.../msg00005.html adapting it so scim and not the other program they talk about. I find only one problem : The date and time is no longer displayed by the system clock. It's quite a strange behaviour I don't understand ! Anyway... Thanks a lot for your help ! |
Hi,
Are you able to type file names in Chinese in OpenOffice? That was the only thing I did not figure out. I am currently trying SUSE 9.2. Its scim input setup is very easy - I did not even need to set up locales. I notice there is a file .xim in HOME directory. Does it exit in Debian? I am still learning Linux. |
Hey,
I'm also learning linux. I don't have this .xim file in my home directory... I didn't try chinese file names because I don't really need it. I already have problems with french accents, so... Bye |
