Hello,

You should be able to use the -I flag to retrieve the information about the package, which should result in giving you the description of the package, along with the size. The normal -i flag is for installing; make sure you note the case of the -I flag. Read the man page for more information about the different arguments you can use: man dpkg

Cheers,

Josh

Not sure, if there is an option for size.
( apt-get install -s <package>, apt-cache showpkg <package> : No luck.)
http://linux.die.net/man/8/apt-get
http://linux.die.net/man/8/apt-cache

May be use the online info http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/gcc-4.4
which will show 'Package Size' and 'Installed Size'

A "downloaded package" : lesspipe package.deb | grep Size
... shows " Installed-Size: ".

..

Yeah I'm sure there is a direct way, as in Fedora I can just bring the info up and grep the size out
