Help running any dhcp client

Hi,

I am using Debian woody and have been trying to use dhclient with no luck.
I always get a CONFIG_PACKET and CONFIG_FILTER error in the syslof asking to recompile them in the kernel. I have recompiled and I still get the same error.

I'm trying dhcpcd client and things look promising but when I run an ifdown command I get this output:
/var/run/dhclient.pid: no such file or directory

This should not say dhclient.pid; it should say dhcpcd. Where do I change the default dhcp client in debian?

Thanks

Possibilities

Can someone tell me what this is all about? I would try it myself but the link to the .dep is broken and I cannot find it at debian.org or Google.

Basically where is dhcpcd_0.70-4.deb?

Ok scratch all of this, can someone help me get a dhcp client of any kind - your choice, up and running.

Please!
