cdrom mounting

Hello all,
I switched over to debain a couple of weeks ago and the only thing that's really giving me issues is mounting cdroms. I can mount data cd's just fine but when I try to mount a music cd so xmms will reconize it I get nothing but errors.

I'm using scsi emulation, and my cdrom drive is /dev/scd1 for data CD's the following works

# mount /dev/scd1 /cdrom -t iso9660

but for music CD's I get

loki:/dev# mount /dev/scd1 /cdrom -t iso9660
mount: block device /dev/scd1 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/scd1,
or too many mounted file systems

my fstab entry is

/dev/cdrom /cdrom iso9660 ro,user,noauto 0 0

where /dev/cdrom points to

loki:/dev# ls -l cdrom
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4 Nov 25 08:20 cdrom -> scd1

I'm in somewhat of a quandry over this. I had been using RedHat for quite some time and this worked ok there. Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg

I doubt that you mounted audio CDs before.

Only data CDs can be mounted. Music cds have cdda files (CD digital audio)

# Managing drives
LNAG - Accessing my drives
Rute - Device Mounting

Make sure your audio cable is connected from the drive to your soundcard, install and configure one of the Audio CD Players

You need software that will play the CD as is without mounting. Search sourceforge, freshmeat, and google . There are a lot of programs out there.

thanks for the help folks. I dug around and it was actually some kernel module I was missing plus a mis-conception on my part. Turns out Redhat had always psudo mounted the audio cd so I figured it was mounting.

Thanks,
Greg
