Maybe it has to have user mount in the fstab? I think that might be the problem.

Paste your /etc/fstab here and maybe we can figure it out.

Code:
# cdrom, cdrw
/dev/hdd /media/cdrom0 iso9660 ro,user,noauto 0 0
/dev/hdc /media/cdrom1 iso9660 ro,user,noauto 0 0
I've just discovered this http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=353826, I guess it's the same problem.

ps

I've got k3b setup going, I changed the NoDisplay=true to NoDisplay=false in file
/usr/share/applnk/Settings/System/k3bsetup2.desktop ... k3bsetup now does not display blank window anymore, I'll try to fix it from here.

OK, I've changed permissions for cd writer to group cdrom and now everything should work fine, I can see cdrw when I start k3b as regular user (user should be in cdrom group of course).
