cant open firefox as normal user

Hi , Im using Debian testing and i just downloaded firefox from APT.

When I try to open it from the console, it said:

Xlib: conection to "0.0"refused by server
Xlib: XDM authorization key matches an existing client!

(firefox-bin:525): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

if i change to root, only this message appear:
firefox-bin:536): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

if i log on as root from the start, i have no problem opening it.

Can someone help me with this problem?

Thank you very much

I use firefox but I've never had this problem. Then again, I never login as root.

I'd suggest that you login as normal user, remove the ~/.mozilla directory, then use "su" to become root and remove the /root/.mozilla directory. Then exit "su" to become normal user again and start Firefox. This will make you lose your previous personal settings (such as bookmarks) but it might help to solve your problem.

If this doesn't help, remove Firefox with "apt-get --purge remove mozilla-firefox", re-install it with "apt-get install mozilla-firefox", make sure that there are no .mozilla directories in root user's or your normal user's home directories, and start Firefox as normal user. Make sure that you never start Firefox as root user and there should be no problems.
