cannot dhcp discover after updating kernel, hangs on inetd

Anyone run into this problem? I used apt-get intall kernel-image-2.6.8-2-386 and now my computer cannot get dhcp on boot. It just hangs when it gets to Starting internet superserver: inetd.

Anyone ever run into this problem?
