Can not install Windows 7 in virtual box

I installed Virtual Box from the Sid Repo and cannot set it up with Win7/64. It does not recognize my DVD for Win 7. Any ideas?

I'm not quite sure but is your host(linux) 32 bit or 64 bit? If it's a 32 bit linux, then you may not be able to run the 64 bit guest inside it.

Just a thought!

Hello Tonya, i don't know for sure, but i installed the latest version of virtualbox from it's the virtualbox repo, and i just finished installing windows 7 fine. I don't know but maybe you might wanna try it that way if you get no success. two more questions, do you have an internal drive, (i don't know how to explain it better) like a apple mac? I have had similar issues to what you describe in the past with those drives. Lastly, can you install any other os into a virtual machine? if you can't then it's probably a virtualbox issue and not a windows7 one.

In the virtual machine settings (settings->storage->select dvd drive), you have to specify the cd/dvd unit as "host drive" to make the virtual machine read the inserted physical media.

Every hardware you see there is virtualized - so you just as well use an iso image (in fact its much faster).
