Can I install OpenOffice 3 on Debian Lenny?

I'm having problems dealing with some .doc files I'm downloading
from the Internet, so I would like to install OpenOffice 3 instead
to see if that helps things. Can I do this in Debian Lenny?

Thanks

Yes easily. OO 3.2 is in lenny-backports repo.

http://packages.debian.org/lenny-bac...openoffice.org

Just add the appropriate line to your /etc/apt/sources.list

Cheers,

Evo2.

Yes!

Just go to the backports website and get the instructions. You have to add it to your /etc/apt/sources.lst.
You can also get a newer iceweasel.

Yes use backports.

Instructions
Quote:
Add backports to your sources.list

1. Add this line

deb http://backports.debian.org/debian-backports lenny-backports main

to your sources.list (or add a new file to /etc/apt/sources.list.d/)
2. Run apt-get update

Install a package from backports

All backports are deactivated by default (i.e. the packages are pinned to 1 by using NotAutomatic: yes in the Release files, just as in experimental). If you want to install something from backports run:

apt-get -t lenny-backports install "package"

of course you can use aptitude as well:

aptitude -t lenny-backports install "package"
