Question Canīt login KDE

Hi everybody. I hope somebody of you can help me.

I'm using Debian 3.1 and let my disk to fill up. When it happended I couldn't login KDE anymore because my disk was full, so I login the X and deleted some big files.

I can't login KDE yet, and when I type $ df -h I get a table showing the disk size and space used (that's fine, I see the expected difference), but the available space is 0 and the use% is 100%.

So, how can I free up that space and login KDE??

( I promiss to keep track of disk space up to now )

When I try to log I get the message "GDM couldn't write in its autorization file. It can mean that there isn't disk space or that your personal directory couldn't be openned for writting. Anyway, it's not possible to start session."

Well, first you need to locate where the space is being used. Issue the command below. It will list all the folders in your root directory and give their size. Be sure to unmount any other OS or file storage partitions that you mave have on your HD (such as windows or another Linux partition) before you issue the command.

Do you see anything that looks bloated?

Code:
# cd /
# du -sh /*
Here's a portion of my output:

Code:
# du -sh /*
3.4M /bin
18M /boot
896K /dev
34M /etc
595M /home
4.0K /initrd
99M /lib
4.0K /lost+found
12K /media
28K /mnt
4.0K /opt
451M /proc
3.2M /root
4.5M /sbin
4.0K /srv
0 /sys
88K /tmp
2.6G /usr
378M /var

Alright, my /var directory is 600MB bigger than it should be.
...

I run out of disk space due to log files size. In /var/log I found 3 big log files that had filled up my disk (syslog, kern.log and messages). I explored through them and realized what caused the massive logs. Finally, I removed them and reboot.

$df -h

F. System Size Used Availa Use% Mounted
/dev/hda6 7,0G 6,3G 356M 95% /
tmpfs 122M 4,0K 122M 1% /dev/shm
tmpfs 10M 740K 9,3M 8% /dev

Thank you for your help.
