can't use keyboard on boot loader with KVM

I have a laptop and desktop I have hooked up with a KVM. The desktop is a tri-boot with Windows XP, Mandrake 10.1 and Xandros 3. On either my Mandrake or Xandros bootloaders my keyboard won't work when connected through the KVM. Once up in either the keyboard works through the KVM just fine, and it works on the NT bootloader and in BIOS setup. It's a Hawking Technology HKS112AU. I looked through the troubleshooting section of the user manual, It suggested turning off autoscan, but that didn't fix the problem either. It might be because it uses just a USB connection for both mouse and keyboard. Anyone have any idea how I could get it to work or is it pretty hopeless?

Only thing I can think of short of using ps/2 connectors is switching usb legacy support in BIOS on (or off).
