Can't use ebay or linuxquestions.org

I am not sure why... it is probably something simple but two things I have noticed. I should state that I am using Libranet 2.8.1 upgraded to gnome 2.6 with all the trimmings. Now...

First. For some reason when I go to ebay, I cannot log into my account, I cannot really search on ebay. Not sure what the problem is. Using galeon browser but tried mozilla and others.. same.

Second. On linuxquestions, I cannot post. (I am on my wife's laptop w/XP) I have tried from my desktop and laptop. When I was using RH I had no problems. Now using debian... loving it by the way... and cannot post. This is also true with other BB sites. Not sure what I don't have configured or installed but I am missing something.

Help please.
-Jeff

your browser is probably blocking cookies. under mozilla firefox specifically, go to tools -> options -> privacy -> cookies and make sure that enable cookies has a check mark.

i don't know if galeon/mozilla/etc share settings, but that is the only thing that i can think of that would cause all browsers to do the same thing.

That sounds like a cookie problem for me to be able to login into ebay I had to be accepting cookies from both ebay.ca and ebay.com. The search function has been broken here for the last couple of days on my Debian installs and at a friend's house on Windows so it is something some genius changed in the programming at ebay, it makes using it pretty much useless at this point not impressive at all.

I only use Debian and posting here works fine using KDE with Konqueror as a browser with the cookies enabled so that I automatically login I would check the settings for them in Mozilla, Galeon ...

nope, I allowed all cookies and allow everything.. and still nothing. I did manually delete out all cache and it helped with logging in to ebay... but nothing else. Any other ideas?

i guess the only other thing i can think of is to check that java and javascript are enabled. also, check out your cookie exceptions list and make sure that these sites are not blocked. try clearing the cookie cache as well as the browser cache also.

FWIW the search function on ebay is working again here today still running Debian of course, seems my email yesterday may have done some good after all although I doubt it was the only one they got. And I agree with zero79 it has to be some stupid little setting messed up in there somewhere.

ok... not sure what the deal is. I loaded FC2 on my laptop to see if it was the distro and I needed something else. Nope. Would not work. I tried last night. However my wife's XP machine works fine. I have posted fine in the past... what is going on here? What am I missing? it is something small and not thought about I guess. Any other ideas???

I haven't got any idea about what might be the actual cause for your problems, but I'd suggest that you start troubleshooting by double-checking your network configuration settings. Troubleshooting is often a process of elimination; when you've made sure that your network configuration is OK, you can safely move on to explore any other possible causes.

If you've got an ethernet connection, you can install the "etherconf" utility and run it (as root). Once you've answered the questions it asks, etherconf will automatically set up some more esoteric network configuration options for you. There's also "pppoeconf" for PPPoE connections and "pppconf" for modem connections.

Edit:

If you're using some Libranet-specific repos in your /atc/apt/sources.list, your problem may be a Libranet bug. You should post your sources.list as additional info. This might help us in pinpointing the problem area.

ok.. I will do that tonight..

Edit:
I am using DSL to DSL modem to Dlink wireless router w/ 4port switch to 8 port switch.

The laptop is wireless.. the desktop is thru the switch.

Sure seem like it is something to do with a network setting.. until use my wife's laptop. Hmmm... will try the suggestions tonight and post.
Thanks,
-Jeff

I've successfully set up an ADSL PPPoE connection with "pppoeconf" but I haven't got any experience on wireless net connections. Perhaps "apt-cache search wireless" would produce something useful?

Make sure your DNS servers are entered in your /etc/resolv.conf file, I had the same problem untill I did that (dispite this machine using DHCP from the router)

D-Link is generally garbage hardware; you get what you pay for. Is your router setup properly to handle PPPoE? That causes problems for many people.
