can't print openoffice with cups
 

I can not print, openoffice documents, with a epson printer that it was configurate with cups...
Who can help me?

I can't help you with the patch, but wonder if you've checked to see if your printer is listed in the "printer settings" which you can access either from the File pull-down menu or from the dialog box that appears when you select File /print for the current document.

I had trouble getting OpenOffice to print several months ago and ended up having to reconfigure my printer every time I wanted to print something. The name of my printer was not appearing under "settings," just the generic printer, and OpenOffice for some reason wouldn't print using the generic printer option.

If the actual name of your printer doesn't appear, that could be a similar problem.

I haven't had this trouble since upgrading to OpenOffice.org 1.2 and now 1.3.

Linuxprinting.org recommends gimp-print driver for Epson Stylus Color 660. To make sure you've got all the needed packages, you can do (as root) "aptitude -r install foomatic-bin cupsys-driver-gimpprint". Then select the gimp-print driver for your printer in CUPS configuration.

However, your problem may well be more OpenOffice.org than CUPS related. In my Debian Sid box printing from OpenOffice.org works out of the box, but if I try to tweak settings in oopadmin it mysteriously stops working. IMO, OpenOffice.org needs to improve their printing settings. Gnome and KDE related apps have much better printing support.

We must edit and put lpr-cups in file psprint
that's in openoffice directory

#gedit /etc/openoffice/psprint.conf

give de name to printer = generic printer
command: lpr/cups

I never had to do anything that complex, but I'm sure it varies by distro, too.

OK, that's a solution that is good to keep in mind, but I assume that you've used the binary downloaded directly from www.openoffice.org. I use the Debian version (downloaded via apt-get) and it doesn't accept any user-assigned printing commands. However, the Debian version seems to print just fine WITHOUT assigning any printing commands, so there you go. I wouldn't be surprised if OpenOffice.org needed yet another command to print via CUPS in some other distro. ;)

Hello, I'm on slackware and I had to add

in my OpenOffice.org1.1.4/share/psprint/psprint.conf file

to get openoffice 1.1.4 to work with CUPS.The installation denied to cooperate with CUPS out of the box.I have a HP 940c printer.
I have printed both latin and greek . Everything works smoothly with latin, and the different fonts are typed nicely.Arial is arial , times new roman is times new roman, verdana is verdana etc.But in greek the text is printed somehow "condensed" , and the different fonts all seem the same , while on screen they are clearly different one from another :confused:

ps. I had no such printing problems with kword and abiword (greek or latin).The different fonts in greek are printed just like on screen.

is it an Openoffice issue when it comes to printing greek characters ? To me it seems like OO has problems "translating" to CUPS non latin characters ...

any ideas ?

Just out of curiosity. Does the same problem exist with apsfilter (other printing system then cups) + openoffice?
