Unhappy can't get ma111 wireless working in debian

Hi all,

I know that there are other posts about for ma111 but i haven't found one for debian. I get the same errors as the rest too. but stuck on what to do next ? how do i know that its working?

I did an upgrade of the kernel to 2.4.25-1-686 and did an apt-get for the wlan-ng drivers and got this

locslap:/usr/src# apt-cache search wlan-ng
hostap-source - Host AP driver for Intersil Prism2/2.5/3
kismet - Wireless 802.11b monitoring tool
linux-wlan-ng - utilities for wireless prism2 cards
linux-wlan-ng-doc - documentation for wlan-ng
linux-wlan-ng-modules-2.4.25-1-386 - drivers for wireless prism2 cards
linux-wlan-ng-modules-2.4.25-1-586tsc - drivers for wireless prism2 cards
linux-wlan-ng-modules-2.4.25-1-686 - drivers for wireless prism2 cards
linux-wlan-ng-modules-2.4.25-1-686-smp - drivers for wireless prism2 cards
linux-wlan-ng-modules-2.4.25-1-k6 - drivers for wireless prism2 cards
linux-wlan-ng-modules-2.4.25-1-k7 - drivers for wireless prism2 cards
linux-wlan-ng-modules-2.4.25-1-k7-smp - drivers for wireless prism2 cards

i then installed it and when i do a lsmod i get this:

locslap:/home/loc/linux-wlan-ng-0.2.0# modprobe prism2_usb
locslap:/home/loc/linux-wlan-ng-0.2.0# lsmod

ok its showing that its there but its unused. when i try to load it into memory i get this error.

locslap:/usr/src# wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_ifstate ifstate=enable
wlanctl-ng: No such device
locslap:/usr/src#

where do i go from here? i'm assuming that driver is correct since i did and apt-get?

any help would be appreciated.

clueless... ;-)

can't get ma111 wireless working in debian

Ok Iocn,

i assume that you're using hotplug for your MA111 and get your source from the Debian testing-tree.

The modules needed for wlan also coming up.

Just edit the config files in '/etc/wlan/'.

In the file wlan.conf, edit the "SSID_wlan0=YOUR_SSID" and "ENABLE_wlan0=y".

The next step is to cp wlancfg-DEFAULT to wlancfg-YOUR_SSID.
Then edit this file to fits your needs, e. g. WEB-Encryption, auth-mod.

The third file to edit, depends on your network struktur.
If you're using dhcp, you have to edit the file '/etc/hotplug/wlan.agent'. Comment out the line 56," /sbin/ifup $INTERFACE", and insert in the next line "/sbin/dhclient $INTERFACE".
If your are using static routing-tables, just bring up the interface with ifconfig ... .

By the way this changes has to be done as root.

OK, hope my reply wasn't to late ...
