I just installed sarge (2.6 kernel) on a laptop (Acer aspire 1312LC), and it's mostly running fine. However, when i login to gnome or xfce a second mousepointer appears in the middle of the screen. I can't move it or get it away. It's cross-shaped and black with a white border. It's on top of everything, what makes it very annoying. Some facts I've found:
- The other mousepointer is just fine.
- The pointer doesn't appear in the login screen (I'm using gdm) or in KDE, it only happens in gnome or xfce.
- Changing screen resolution in gnome makes the pointer disappear, but this is only a temporary solution: after the next login it appears again. Changing resolution in xfce doesn't work.
- I have a optical Logitech USB mouse with scrollwheel and a touchpad. They both only influence the "good" pointer.
- I first used the vesa driver, and didn't have this problem (going back is no option, it was really ugly). Now I'm using the savage driver.
- I added vga=791 as bootparameter but that doesn't have any effect on the second pointer.
- after a lot of time logged in the pointer disappears sometimes, but I don't know why. Logging in again makes the pointer reappear
Does anyone know a solution or workaround?
Thanks,
Sterrenkijker

Hmm, I can't configure a lot in the bios. However, it isn't really a solution, as I am not the only laptop user here. Windows is still installed and my family wouldn't appreciate if I disabled it
I am having the same problem. I installed Sarge, but with the 2.4 kernel. I also am using the Savage driver. My computer is a Toshiba Tecra 8100. This computer has an Intel chipset, so the common link seems to be the Savage video driver. I'll post the answer to this problem If I find it.
