can't find log for apt-get updates
 

Hi'ya all ya Debian folks. I'm trying to get the sounds working on Woody 3.0r2, and not getting on to bad. Loads of updates/upgrades to try and get it up to the testing version to use Alsa 1.08. Meanwhile back to the ? The log for yum updates is in /var/log, apt on FC1 & FC2 is with rpm -q -a --last, but I'm darned if I can find the update, timestamped logs for apt on Debian. /var/cache/apt shows what you've downloaded, but not sequence of events. Any help would be gratefully appreciated, and I am very gratefull for the help I've had up to now for Debian. Nigel. aka farpoint.

Hi, I don't know anything about apt-get logs but you might like to try aptitude for package management. Among many other nice features that aptitude has, it writes proper log entries to /var/log.

Hi DeadParrot. Thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay. I've been tied up upgrading Debian 3.0r2 to the testing version. I've got aptitude on the machine, but as I'm using apt-get and synaptic I don't really want to bring in another package manager to the equation. I searched the man page for dpkg thinking there might be a command there for viewing a date/time record of what had been installed, but with no success. It's no big deal, just nice to see what was installed and when. Thanks again. Nigel. aka farpoint.
