Can't copy CD with K3b

I've set up my IDE Aopen 8x8 DVD-RW drive with scsi emulation by adding hdc=ide-scsi to my /etc/grub/menu.lst and editing the entry in /etc/fstab from /dev/hdc to /dev/scd0. I made sure that /dev/scd0 was symlinked to /media/cdrom0. I then installed K3b burning suite. Now I can read and burn a data CD and play an audio CD, but I can't copy or rip an audio CD and Totem movie player (which was working) gives an error message when trying to play a DVD; "unexpected error status 256 while mounting /media/cdrom0". Can anyone help?

That's impressive - all I get out of totem is "no url handler for dvd://".

The best way to see what's going on is to use command line tools for the same job.
