Can't add new TrueType fonts

I have some new Truetype fonts I want to try out. I've put them in several directories, actually and when as root I run fc-cache -f -v, it is finding all of them. But they do not show up as options in any program that uses TT fonts.

Is there something else I need to do? I'm running Unstable, Xorg 7, everything is up to date. I can see other windows tt fonts, the bitstream vera one and others.

Thanks for any ideas,

Barbara

Have you tried this...

1. create a subdirectory in /usr/share/fonts e.g. myttf
2. copy your fonts to that directory
3. start a terminal emulator and cd to the font directory you made
4. switch to root by using "su" and do the following

Code:
#mkfontdir
#mkfontscale
#fc-cache

Tried all that. Everything worked, no errors, but they still don't show up. Do I need a font server running? Or anything else to try?

Assuming you copied your fonts in /some/font/dir:
Code:
cd /some/font/dir
mkfontdir
mkfontscale
chkfontpath -a /some/font/dir
/etc/init.d/xfs reload
This is how I always do and it works. If you copied your fonts in an existing font dir, just drop the chkfontpath line.
