what are the symptoms?
do you drag bookmark to toolbar? do you press ctrl+d? can you open "places" (bookmark manager)? can you edit names of a bookmark? can you drag them or copy them?

history.
do you use text menu to open history or press ctrl+h?
is there no response at all? or do you see some greyed (disabled) commands?

your (two?) question might be better in mozilla or mozillazine forum...

edit: found links that may provide info. maybe the places.sqlite is locked or some other problem?

It's a long shot but let's rule that one out first: have you, by any chance, run out of space? What's the output of 'df -h'?

erdos@thinkpad:~$ df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
rootfs 5.6G 4.2G 1.2G 79% /
none 184M 0 184M 0% /dev
/dev/disk/by-uuid/f72360f5-4103-4a47-a9ff-dfc26d93a053 5.6G 4.2G 1.2G 79% /
tmpfs 38M 388K 38M 2% /run
tmpfs 5.0M 0 5.0M 0% /run/lock
tmpfs 177M 0 177M 0% /run/shm
/dev/sda4 2.8G 2.6G 0 100% /home

strange, /home is 2.6G out of 2.8G, but it shows 100% full?

Try to free some space and see if that helps.
