Help me w/ bug reports please!
How?
1) Anyway, bzflag will only take snapshots with root permissions and places the pictures in /usr/games along with the executables.
2) Upon compiling bzflag 1.10.8, snapshots with root permissions only also. Executables however placed in /usr/local/bin. The group on the executable was changed from staff to jchap (me!). Tried adding myself to that group but still same ole same ole. When changed to jchap, voila! And pictures appeared in home directory as expected!
3) Using checkinstall created my own .deb named bzflag-1.10.8... Installed it along side 1.10.6 without dependency problems or any other known hiccups.
4) Would like to fix the source to reflect the debian file heirarchy and permission thingy so snapshots can be taken by regular user. Prolly pretty easy.
5) adns required for bzflag-server? Even though adns-1 installed ./configure produced a warning. Don't run the server so no prob. but ... would like to correct.
6) Play in kdm's failsafe from terminal. No GUI effects ... tearing, glitching, ...
7) Would like to co-maintain the package or help out as 1.10.8 fixes list server problem and everyone else got it -->gentoo's emerge I think.
8) Am a secretplace.us denizen (Squirrel G) and have the cooperation of some of the Admin's (PeEpZ) to help out.
9) Have programmed in ANSI C and C++ a little, and can debug pretty effieciently (am a mathematician, programmer/engineer/mechanic/lover by hobby).
10) I wanna help.
11) Help me to help others.
Would have placed on software, but am a debianite (puppy, dsl, SID)!
Please offer suggestions to help me get the bz archive up to speed. Maybe I contact T. Riker?
Oh yes, gentoo's source uses the same heirarchy as debian, one admin pointed out. Would it be worth it to grab their source and compile and see what happends?
Sadly
enough, most players like 99% were running as root. Not I! Would not have found prob. if not had been following concerns of filesystem screwups when messing up when logged on as root.
