Brother Printer

I have just done an upgrade on Debian 9 using apt upgrade. I can no longer print. ^p only shows a generic printer which doesn't work. I tried
root@alaric:/home/alaric# ps -ef| grep cup
root 13867 13759 0 16:11 pts/0 00:00:00 grep cup
I assume that means that cups is running. Localhost:631 cannot be loaded.

I have a computer on Gigabyte, i7 and 8gbs ram. The printer is a Brother HL2240D and the correct ppd file is loaded in /etc/cups. I have turned off the ufw firewall but I am not going to leave it off as I am being bombarded with phishing scams and the like.

I could re-install Debian with the internet turned off but I would then lose various security upgrades.

I like Debian and would be loath to abandon it but I have a lot of urgent work to do.

Regards,

Alaric

cups is not running. Try starting it and see if that fixes the problem.

systemctl start cups

Thanks, After a lot of poking around I discovered that the update had not installed correctly and install --fix broken-install or whatever sorted the problem. I still can't access localhost:631. Firefox says the certificate is invalid and when I tried to by-pass the certificate I just get a message 'bad request'
