Post br0 with ath0 and eth0 not working on ixp

Hi,

I am trying to have two interfaces( ath0 and eth0) added to my bridge interface(br0).The issue iam facing now is that, when i create a master interface(AP) and add this to my br0 interface by executing brctl addif br0 ath0(i.e iam giving an ip address to br0 only) the client is able to associate and
and ping too.

But now when i add a eth0 interface to the br0 interface, and associate a new client to the AP, THE CLIENT IS NOT ABLE TO PING THE AP, it pings when the eth0 interface is made down .

why is it so. can somebody help me.

iam using IXP425 with debian .kernel version 2.6.16

Regards,
