Bose Companion 5 speakers under Lenny

Does anyone have experience of getting Bose Companion 5 speakers to play
with Lenny ?

There is a helpful post on the Ubuntu forums

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...bose+companion

and using that my Bose speakers worked fine under Ubuntu 7.10 and 8.04.

I've changed to Debian partly because my tower is a few years old and can't
always handle the latest of everything; partly because I just value stability.

I realize that Debian (Lenny, weekly build of June 5th) is less uptodate
than Ubuntu but the speakers did work perfectly for one session with the
same .asoundrc and .asoundconf files as for Ubuntu.

On rebooting they failed -- just a thin steady pitch from the speakers.

Running alsaconf from the menu finds cards:

ens1371 Ensoniq ES1371 [AudioPCI-97] (rev
intel8x0 Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM
mpu401 snd-mpu401
legacy Probe legacy ISA (non-PnP) chips

I've tried each of the first three in turn. Under some Rhythmbox won't play
(it will start up and select a track but won't commence to play), under others
it appears to play but is silent. I got a warning for the legacy so didn't
try it.

I've put the .asoundrc and .asoundrc.asoundconf files below.

I'll be really grateful for help.

Bose Companion 5 speakers under Lenny

Many thanks Tredegar. Sound, Bose speakers and rhythmbox all work now.

I did search and got your post but didn't read beyond the original post. Lesson learned I hope.

Best, N
