bootsplash in debian etch

Hello, I was trying to install bootsplash for debian etch, but when I boot my computer it display an error message like this:

RAMDISK: could'nt find valid RAM disk image starting at 0.
Time: tsc clocksource has been installed
VFS: can not open root device "sda4" or unknown-block (0,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown - block (0,0)

Someone can help me to solve this error please?

How did you install it? Did you use the "splash" command to append a bootsplash image to your initrd image? If so, that corrupted the initrd image. See this thread and this FAQ entry.

You have to compile a new kernel (including an initrd image) to enable bootsplash.
