boot fails due to large harddrive
I did a sarge with kernel 2.6 net install with the i386 cd image, when the cd is ejected at the end of the first half and it reboots I get an error that says,
GRUB Loading stage1.5. GRUB loading, please wait... Error 18 I found where Error 18 means that that harddrive is to big for the bios and I also read somewhere that a way to get around this is to make a boot sector, like I made when I installed Woody with the 2.4 kernel. What I would like to know is this the only way to resolve the problem, is it the best way to resolve the problem or is there another way that this large harddrive issue can be overcome? |
could you give more background?
what size hard drive are you using? what bus are you using? ata33? ata133? scsi? raid? what is the motherboard? when was your last bios update? |

Problem solved
Thank you, haimeltjnfg
With the nudge in the direction of finding out what the harddrive and motherboard is I found the manual of the motherboard on line, did some reading and set the specs for the HD in bios and it booted right up. again thanks. |
