Unhappy Boot error: L 99 99 99 99.........................

While upgrading my SATA sda from a 350GB to 1TB I must have done something silly to the old disc. (So what's new dave?)

When I try to boot from it (Lilo), I get a screenful of

Quote:
L 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 ..........
.

This happens even when it is the sole disc on the machine or connected by a USB adapter.

While not tragic, it is a major nuisance as there are some things I cannot check to replicate on my fresh install. I have not been able to find anything useful via Google.

Can anybody help please?

This error message indicates that the first stage of Lilo (that part that is contained in the MBR) was started, but it can't find the second stage on the disk. Simplest solution would be to chroot into the old system and reinstall Lilo to the MBR, so that it is aware of the changes.
