Big Trouble with XFree86 after apt-get dist-upgrade

Because I made a big mess with the kernel I decided to reinstall my debian and so I reinstalled it.After that I selected unstable and made dist-upgrade and the X server didn't want to start. It says the he could no find and there is no suck directory in /usr/X11R1/...../xserverrc .Then I tested with the testing distro but it also didn't worked. So I'm so confused because the last I just upgraded to unstable and everything went fine. But if I type apt-get remove x nothing happens. What should I type to remove completely X and to reinstall it again ? (all components)

The metapackages used to install a complete XFree86 system are x-window-system and x-window-system core. Try removing these first.

The individual packages that contain the actual X files are xserver-common and xserver-xfree86.

Running apt-get dist-upgrade is always rather dangerous in my opinion. Often it will break some packages, which could cause what you're describing. You should check in aptitude if there are any broken packages. If there are, you can try to fix things by running apt-get --fix-missing install
