Anti-X, a Mepis derivative is very nice. New version 8.2 just released.

what makes a distro frugal?
i thought it would be something like small, good on ressources, whatever, but Sidux for sure aint that way.

antix is cool (first choice)
knoppix comes with lxde now
mepis (but that i wouldnt call frugal).

ok, please, explain someone the frugal-thing to me.
thanks in advance

Frugal means it runs as a livecd
meaning the squashfs is read-only
and it also means it runs persistent
wherein all apps, settings added are persistent at every boot

Frugal is the reverse of a hd install

You can "break" a fully installed system
you can't really break a frugal system, as you can just delete your saves and start anew

sidux can boot frugal from hd/usb
as can debian-live,grml, hag, etc

also, j1alu
you can boot both grml, hag, and sidux "fromiso"
instead of having to do a install to usb
thats cool

j1alu, did you try ThorsHammer yet?
there all frugal

oh
heres the iso and zip
use the zip if you dont wanna burn to cd
here's the iso 696mb with md5sum
http://multidistro.com/downloads/ham...mer-090109.iso

md5sum
13a06dd53cff5f593a601ba830009bc0

here's the zip, remember, it's the same as the iso
just in zip form
for those who don't have access to a cd burner
or just wanna install to usb/hd
http://multidistro.com/downloads/ham...mer-090109.zip

zip md5sum
c19cc79151a09a4976c1055c4551492c

just unzip to usb or a hd partition thats using grub, or syslinux

I boot most of the frugals from my ubuntu partition
yep

you can link your existing grub menu.lst to the thorshammer menu.lst(s)
by adding this to your grub menu.lst
assuming your putting all of thors hammer on hda1

Code:
title ThorsHammer
root (hd0,0)
configfile /boot/grub/menu.lst
and, so, you can get back to your menu.lst
assuming your booting menu.lst is on hda3
make this entry in the thorshammer menu.lst

Code:
title <<---Back to My HD Menu
root (hd0,2)
configfile /boot/grub/menu.lst
heres thorshammer menu.lst

Code:
default 0
timeout 10

color red/black light-red/black

title Plop
root (hd0,0)
kernel /plpbt

title Utilities Menu
root (hd0,0)
configfile /boot/grub/utils-menu.lst

title GRML-Magix 083009 Menu
root (hd0,0)
configfile /boot/grub/grml-menu.lst

title DarkMagic-4.4 Menu
root (hd0,0)
configfile /boot/grub/pmagic-menu.lst

title RescuePup-Beta Menu
root (hd0,0)
configfile /boot/grub/pup-menu.lst

title Slackware-13 Mini (Alien Bob's)
root (hd0,0)
configfile /boot/grub/slk-menu.lst

title ZorOS-3.6 Menu
root (hd0,0)
configfile /boot/grub/zoros-menu.lst
so, its setup to run from usb or hd0,0

I'm trying to make a better one now

theres also my puppack-v1.0.iso too
5 or 6 puppies

i downloaded and burned it yesterday, but ran into some other trouble.
im now posting from the ThorHammer grml Cd:
Wow.
heres a shot:
http://xs343.xs.to/xs343/09382/grml892.png
its a bit unsharp, dunno why, on my screen its like a razor.

iŽll check for the other distros on the cd, but so far grml is enough.
greetings

trouble is unrelated to your Cd, i followed a kernel-compile-how-to...first one didnt boot, second had no net-connection, than it worked, than i had trouble in virtualbox...never mind.

i had a look at one of the other distros, might be its partimage? (something with dark in the title, with clonezilla and G4* or so). I guess i`ll try to put the zip on an usb-stick, but later.

Yep, grml is cool, but you have added some nice wallpapers and good apps.
